What is IPTV?

With IPTV (Internet Protocol TV), installed by MCW, your residents can watch Freeview TV on their PCs or notebook computers. Freeview provides up to 30 free digital TV channels and more than 20 digital radio stations.

IPTV, also called "TV over IP," is a new technology that uses streaming video techniques to deliver scheduled TV programs digitally over a network infrastructure.

Unlike transmitting over the air or via cable to a TV set, IPTV uses the transport protocol of the Internet. IPTV can be watched on different types of viewing devices such as standard televisions with adapters, dedicated IP televisions, multimedia computers and mobile telephones.

As IPTV develops over the next few years, it is expected that consumers will be able to personalise content and watch what they want, exactly when they want to.
